Karaganda – The Industrial Capital of Kazakhstan
Karaganda Oblast is located in the central part of Kazakhstan and shares borders with 9 of 14 oblasts of the Republic of Kazakhstan .

The potential recoverable value of Karaganda Oblast's balance reserves in main kinds of solid minerals is US$ 758.2 billion.
As of 1 October 2007 , Karaganda Oblast had 12,687 registered economic entities (legal entities). Of these, 11,604 are minor enterprises, 8,050 of which being small businesses.
Housing Construction
Kazakhstan has adopted the second State Programme for Housing Construction which in standard volumes of housing construction doubles the first one, designed for 2008-2010.
According to preliminary data, a total of US$ 2.4 billion of government funds will be needed for its implementation (the current exchange rate is 125.56 tenge per $1): US$ 878.5 million in 2008, US$ 818.7 million in 2009, and US$ 698.5 million in 2010.
Thanks to the new programme, with the annual growth rate in commissioning, about 26.1 million sq. m will be built during three years. Also, 2.1 million sq. m of available housing will be built: 0.86 million sq. m in 2008, 0.73 million sq. m in 2009, and 0.51 million sq. m in 2010.
At the same time, a total of 17.1 million sq. m of individual houses will be built: 5.3 million sq. m in 2008, 5.6 million sq. m in 2009, and 6.2 million sq. m in 2010.
Economic Development of Karaganda
Oblast's Regions Investment Activities
In January through September 2007, most funds invested in the fixed assets in Karaganda Oblast were in the cities of Karaganda (27.6%), Zhezkazgan (24.2%), Temirtau (16.7%), Bukhar-Zhyrau District (4.8%), and the city of Balkhash (4.6%).
Thirteen regions of the Oblast experience an increase of investment in the fixed assets in January through September 2007, as compared with January through September 2006.
According to the government data, the economic growth rates in Kazakhstan in 2008 will be at least 5-7%.
The current year's economic development rates demonstrate strong positions of Kazakhstan : during the 9 months of this year, the actual GDP growth was 109.7%.
Construction Activities
By regions, the largest share of all contract works in January through September 2007 belongs to the enterprises of the cities of Karaganda (58.0%), Temirtau (19.3%), Shet District (7.0%), and the city of Balkhash (6.0%).
Most of the housing commissioned during the months of 2007 was in the city of Karaganda (31.2%), Zhana-Arka District (11.2%), the city of Karazhal (9.6%), Osakar District (9.0%), and the city of Temirtau (7.5 %). With regards to the total housing area, the growth is witnessed in 17 regions of the Oblast.
