"Golden Bull Steakhouse and Johnny's Pub"

Description: Golden Bull is a brand new restaurant regularly featuring local celebrity Johnny Gazz with his band Liquid Cactus playing American and British cover music nightly (excluding Monday). Golden Bull opened in May 2003 and has been packed all summer. Thursday through Saturday there is a 50 soms cover charge. This is definately one of the best value live music places in town. Golden Bull has an interesting Indian and American influenced menu.
"Tequila Blues"
Address: On Turusbekova half a block south of Moskovskaya
Description: Tequila Blues is an intimate and quite interesting venue: it is a former bomb-shelter. Teqquila Blues is open Friday-Sunday nights, usually with a 50 soms cover charge. Friday is "light" (actually regular) rock, Saturday is "hard" rock, and Sunday is "Jazz and Blues" night.
"Zeppelin"
Address: Zeppelin is on Chui about 2 miles east of TsUM.
Description: Zeppelin was renovated and expanded slightly summer 2003 and is a home to a mostly young and Russian crowd. Although it is loud, unlike Tequila Blues there is an outdoor area within the gated section. Zeppelin generally charges 50 soms for entrance. Hot dogs and gamburgers are usually available at night. Vodka shots start at 7 soms.
"Hyatt"
Address: Sovietskaya & Frunze
Description: Hyatt is without question the highest end hotel and establishment in the country - probably including Kazakhstan - and its not cheap. However, Thursday through Saturdays the Hyatt's bar Club 91 hosts live jazz music with no cover charge and happy hour (most drinks half price) from 6:30 to 8:30 pm.
"Arzu"
Address: Jybek Jylu (Eastern Outskirts of town)
Description: Arzu is actually a "cafe" which means they serve full dinners and employ a local 3 person band to play contemporary cover songs with a synthesizer. Although you can get this itself is not unique, the size and scale of Arzu make it a giant nighttime destination. Arzu has a large enclosed outdoor area and prices, after the 60 soms cover charge, are relatively cheap. It is a popular student hangout.
