The Chefs Association of Uzbekistan intends to get into the Guinness Book of Records by cooking the world’s largest Uzbek pilaf. Top chefs from all regions of Uzbekistan will come together to make 4.7 tons of fragrant and grainy traditional Uzbek dish. To do this they will need about 1.5 tons of rice, 1,200 kg of meat, the same amount of carrots, 300 kg of onions and 300 liters of oil. To make the largest pilaf ever cooked they will need about 12 large pots. It is known that pilaf is the main dish of the Uzbek festive table (dastarkhan). Any major event in Uzbekistan can’t do without it. Each region of the republic has its own local recipe of this traditional Uzbek dish. Bukhara pilaf differs from Samarkand, Fergana and Tashkent recipes with the method of cooking, spices and additional ingredients, which give the special thrill to each pilaf. Although the main products for pilaf remain the same: meat, onions, carrots and rice. At the show, depending on the type of pilaf chefs will add raisins, barberries, dried apricots, garlic and other ingredients. Uzbek Pilaf cooks are planning to set the World record this spring.
