Khan-atlas, the best-known Uzbek silk fabric, is lightweight, durable, cool and tender to the touch with a specific bright “rainbow” pattern. The tradition of the Uzbek khan-atlas manufacturing carefully passed down from generation to generation for centuries, and today we can wear clothes made of genuine Uzbek khan-atlas.
Originality and quality of the Uzbek national fabric were duly appreciated by the world's leading fashion designers who used khan-atlas for their prêt-a-porter collections. Khan-atlas clothes and accessories are popular souvenirs for foreign tourists coming to Uzbekistan to see Samarkand and Bukhara historical monuments of and get acquainted with original Uzbek culture.
Khan-atlas festival in Uzbekistan, scheduled for June 2-6 is a way to demonstrate new possibilities of using national fabrics in modern fashion, a search for fresh ideas and inspiration sources in the age-old Uzbek traditions and combination of national coloring with the modern fashion trends.
Traditionally, the festival will be held in a defile format to present a collection of both young and experienced Uzbek fashion designers. Bright demonstration show will be interesting both for metropolitans and visitors.
Festival organizer: Tashkent Institute of Textile and Light Industry, Association of Designers of Uzbekistan “Osie Ramzi”, UzLegprom, Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan.
On June 2-4 French designers from the Haute Alsace University with the participation of the Embassy of France in Uzbekistan will arrange a training seminar, and on June 5 the Tashkent House of Photography will host a French Exhibition of “Smart Clothes” to demonstrate textile innovations.
