Hospitality Industry in Kazakhstan
Location:
Located in the heart of Central Asia, Kazakhstan is the ninth largest country in the world. It is located at the crossroads between Europe and the huge Asian market, whose population accounts for a quarter of the world's population. Kazakhstan has a population of 16 million and its capital is Astana.
Almaty, the Southern Capital of Kazakhstan
In 2005, Almaty is officially declared the financial centre of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The main purpose of this centre is to urge financial flows into Kazakhstan. Today, nearly 2 million people live in Almaty. Horex 2009 will be held in the only specialized complex in Almaty – International Exhibition Centre “Atakent”.
In Almaty, the number of public catering facilities amounts to 1,356, including 354 restaurants, whereas the number of caterers in Astana is almost two times shorter than that in Almaty – only 637 such facilities (including 196 restaurants). According to experts’ estimates, the annual restaurant market increase prior to 2007 was about 20%. The EuroMonitor assessed its volume at USD 281 million (2006 data). No more recent assessments are available; however, proceeding from its growth rates, it can be assessed at no less amount than one third of a million dollars in 2007.
The Hospitality Industry in Kazakhstan:
Today, the hotel market in Kazakhstan is booming, and the world’s hotel business giants such as Marriott, Rixos, Kempinski, Radisson and Holliday Inn are interested in business tourism which makes up 82-84% of the market. Development of the hospitality industry is undoubtedly represented by HOREX. HOREX sections provide an opportunity to demonstrate all of the current achievements in the area of equipment and automation of restaurants and hotels, stores, warehouses and supermarkets. HOREX is a young and growing exhibition which has nevertheless become an important source of professional information for market players. An efficient strategy and a busy agenda (congresses, professional competitions and shows) helped the exhibition gain a serious status and became the “formula of success”.
The HOREX 2008 Resume:
30% of exhibitors signed sales contract during the exhibition;
48% of exhibitors said in their questionnaires that their stand was attended by 10 to 50 specialists a day, 27% – 50 to 100 specialists, 15% – 100 to 200 specialists, and 9% – fewer than 10 specialists a day.
A total of 2,652 visits by specialists were registered during the three exhibition days;
A review of the visitors’ positions as specified in their questionnaires demonstrated the following picture: 53% – department heads, chefs, managers and other specialists in charge of procurement, 28% – directors and presidents, 11% – deputy CEOs and accountants, and 4% – other specialists; and
85% of visitors confirmed they are going to come to the next year’s exhibition.
