Your journey begins in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia, from where you will head to monasteries in the Caucasus Mountains and the charming towns of the Alazani Valley. After a few days of exploring Georgian culture, you will transfer to Armenia, which shares some similarities with its neighbor yet has its own distinct characteristics. You will travel along the tranquil Lake Sevan and its lakeside temples, visit the capital, Yerevan, and then head to Echmiadzin, the heart of the Armenian Church. This winter tour of Georgia and Armenia will be a fantastic conclusion to 2024 and will inspire you for new adventures in the future!

Tour itinerary:

Day 1 – 23 December, Mo: Tbilisi – arrival
 
Arrival in Tbilisi. Private transfer will be arranged to your hotel. Check-in at 14:00. Free time. Overnight at the hotel.
Driving distance: 15 km
Day 2 – 24 December, Tu: Tbilisi – Bodbe – Sighnaghi – Tbilisi
 
After breakfast depart towards the Kakheti region of Georgia, the cradle of Georgian winemaking. Our first stop will be in Bodbe Convent, which according to the legend is a burial place of St. Nino, who converted Georgia to Christianity in the 4th century. According to Tsar Alexader III of Russia decree, since 1889 Bodbe complex functions as a nunnery. Continue Sighnaghi, the city of love and the Royal Town, one of the crossroads of the Great Silk Road surrounded by defensive walls with 23 towers.
For lunch, we will be hosted at a family winery for the delicious homemade treat. We will also learn about the way Georgians have been producing wine in clay shaped vessels called Qvevri and taste local wine. Return to Tbilisi for overnight.

Day 3 – 25 December, We: Tbilisi – Jvari – Gudauri – Ananuri – Tbilisi
 
After breakfast meet your guide and drive to Jvari Monastery, a true architectural masterpiece of the Early Middle Ages overlooking the confluence of Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers from the top of the hill. Reach Gudauri, the mountain ski resort (120 km). Gudauri is located on southern slopes of the Caucasus Mountains on the plateau at the height of 2000 meters above the sea level.
Spend an entire day at Gudauri ski resort. Enjoy skiing. Take a ride on the cable car to enjoy the views of the skiing slopes of snowy mountains. There is an option to rent sleds or get the first skiing lesson from the professional instructor. Depart Gudauri and head to Tbilisi. En-route make a short stop at Ananuri complex, a former residence of Argveti Dukes. Complex featuring churches and towers dating back to the 16-17th centuries is beautifully overlooking Jinvali reservoir. Return to Tbilisi.

Day 4 – 26 December, Th: Tbilisi
 
In the morning, have sightseeing tour in Tbilisi. Start at Metekhi Church and monument to Vakhtang Gorgasali, the legendary founder of Tbilisi. Take a cable car to Narikala Fortress to enjoy breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Walk down to the district of sulphur bath house passing by the only mosque in Tbilisi. Stroll through the Sharden area full of narrow streets with cozy cafés, wine tasting bars, souvenir shops, and breathe in the living past. Visit Sioni Cathedral, Anchiskhati Basilica, the clock tower of famous Rezo Gabriadze Theatre, and Bridge of Peace leading to the Rike Park.
Free evening in Tbilisi. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 5 – 27 December, Fr: Tbilisi – Armenian border – Lake Sevan – Sevanavank – Yerevan
 
At 09:00, our driver will meet you at your hotel in Tbilisi and transfer to “Sadakhlo-Bagratashen” Georgian-Armenian border point. Cross the border, meet your Armenian guide and driver to start the journey to the land of ancient traditions and oldest temples. Drive to the Lake Sevan, “The Jewel of Armenia” and one of the largest high-mountainous freshwater lakes in the world. The coastline of the Lake Sevan is rich with thick woods, white bare steep rocks, mountain steppes and Alpine meadows. Stop at Sevanavank to visit the remnants of the monastery that include two temples – Surb Arakelots and Surb Karapet, standing among numerous khachkars - carved cross-stones. The buildings were constructed from black tuff which probably gave the monastery its name Sevanavank – “the Black Monastery”. The place opens a magnificent view: the mountains surround lake from all sides and snow tops are seen almost on the entire perimeter and disappear behind horizon. Continue to Yerevan for overnight.

Day 6 – 28 December, Sa: Yerevan – Etchmiadzin – Yerevan
 
Breakfast. In the morning, drive out of the city to Etchmiadzin Cathedral, the Holy See of Armenia and the residence of the head of the Armenian Apostolic Church – the Catholicos of All Armenians. We will visit the museum of Christian relics. Return to explore Yerevan, the oldest capital city in the South Caucasus. Yerevan is known as the Pink City and attracts visitors with its humble yet splendid landscapes. Our first stop in Yerevan will be at the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex on Tsitsernakaberd Hill. Next, visit the Cascade Monument, one of the main symbols of the city. The mega scale staircase is 118 meters high and has 572 steps. From the top of the monument, enjoy a breathtaking city view that includes the Opera House, Mount Ararat, Swan Lake, Republic Square, and Abovyan Avenue, all of which we’ll see as we walk the streets of Yerevan (~2 km walking).
Meet in the evening for a farewell dinner at a traditional local restaurant. Overnight at the hotel.

Day 7 – 29 December, Su: Yerevan – departure
 
Check-out from the hotel till noon. Free time till transfer to Yerevan International Airport. End of Georgia and Armenia Winter Group Tour.
