The station was built in 1940 in the Stalinist Empire style and today holds ticket offices, a waiting room and a luggage storage area. Nearby are several retail outlets and a small bus station from which buses and minibuses go to Svaneti and other areas.
Zugdidi Railway Station is the northwestern terminus of Georgian Railways and is connected with Tbilisi by several local trains which run regularly.
