Happō-en Garden History

Over time, the garden changed owners, with its current design finalized in the early 20th century when businessman Kuhara Fusanosuke purchased the land.
The name "Happō-en" means "garden of eight views", symbolizing the idea that the garden is beautiful from every angle. In Japan, the number eight is also considered lucky, adding a layer of significance to the name.
Teahouse Mu-an
At Mu-an Tea House, visitors can enjoy matcha tea and traditional sweets after strolling through the garden. There are two ways to experience the tea house: serving tea is available without a reservation, while the tea ceremony requires an appointment and offers a deeper immersion into Japanese culture.

Subway: Shirokanedai Station on the Namboku and Mita Lines is adjacent to the garden. The nearest bus stop is Shirokane-Shōgakkō.
