Vasily Surikov Estate Museum
Krasnoyarsk is proud of its eminent fellow-townsman - the great Russian painter Vasily Ivanovich Surikov. The artist was born, grew up and lived in Krasnoyarsk. His estate, which eventually turned into a museum, is situated here. It was opened in 1948, on the hundredth birthday anniversary of the artist. The house, where the main exposition is situated, was built by the father of the artist in 1830. The appearance of the estate as well as the furnishing in the ten rooms of the house has preserved. One of rooms served as a workshop - "Capture of a Snow Town’ painting as well as portraits, landscapes and a number of sketches were painted here. There are also little-known paintings, watercolors, and personal belongings of the artist in the collection. Ideas about creation of many paintings by the great artist were born in this house. The museum's collection includes more than a hundred of his original works.
