Crafts Development Centre to be launched in Nukus

Crafts Development Centre to be launched in NukusCrafts Development Centre of Karakalpakstan to open in Nukus with the support of the UNESCO.

As reported by the Uzbek media, the purpose is to support traditional Karakalpak art, preserving old handicrafts and presenting Karakalpak handicraft art on national and international levels.

Handicrafts Centre is founded near the Karakalpakstan branch of Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan. It will start its activity with organization of few seminars on natural dying of fabrics, Karakalpak hand embroidery, carpet weaving and producing accessories for yurts – traditional Karakalpak nomads dwelling.

Official opening of the Crafts Development Centre will be held on 10 October, 2014.
