Tour itinerary:
After breakfast at 9:00 meet your driver and guide at your hotel lobby and depart for Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Your first stop will be Borjomi. Borjomi is internationally renowned for its geothermal spring mineral water. Its accessible location in the beautiful Lesser Caucasus Mountains attracts tourists in search of nature, escape and enlightenment tourism opportunities year round. Take a walk in the Borjomi Central Park, where you can taste the natural mineral water right from the spring. Drive to Atskuri village and visit family winery for lunch and wine tasting. Meskheti is one of Georgia’s archaic wine-making regions. According to some scientists, some of the oldest Georgian varieties of grape such as Saperavi, Dzelshavi, Khikhvi and others could have come from here. You will have an opportunity to taste natural homemade wine and Meskhetian dishes. After lunch drive towards Vardzia and en-route make a short stop at Khertvisi Fortress (10-11th centuries). Overnight at the hotel in Vardzia.
In the morning visit Vardzia Cave town erected in the 12-13th centuries during the rule of George III and his daughter of Tamara to protect the southern boundaries of Georgia. Vardzia is not just a set of random rooms cut in rocks. It is a multi-storied complex with streets, tunnels, and stairs leading to monasteries, temples, fortresses, baths, libraries dwelling houses, and so forth. Your next stop will be in Saro village. There is an entire architectural complex in this village where you will see a cyclopean fortress built during the time of the Egyptian pyramids. Visit family winery in Saro. Here you can taste variety of natural Meskhetian wines: Tskhenisdudzu, Kharistvala, Meskhuri Mtsvane and other (upon your choice) and taste local dishes such as: Tutmaji (traditional meskhetian noodle and yogurt soup), Khavitsi (made from flour, milk, and dairy products, and is eaten hot) and Tatarberaki (Meskhetian version of pasta). Depart towards Tbilisi, passing by the biggest lake of the country – Paravani Lake, enjoying a scenic drive. Arrive in Tbilisi. Drop-off at your hotel. End of the tour.
