Borovitskaya Tower
At the foot of one of the seven hills of Moscow there is the tower, which is different from the others due to pyramid-like shape. It is the Borovitskaya Tower.
The name of the tower, according to the legend, is associated with the memory of dense forest (bor) on the top of the Kremlin. Borovitskaya Tower was built in 1490. The tower’s powerful square base is topped with three tetrahedrons of various sizes. The entire structure is crowned with the tall stone dome. In 1937 the tower was decorated with a ruby star. Borovitskaya’s height without the star is 50.7 m, with the star – 54.5 meters.
